Suburban presents hiring workshop
“Recruiting winners.” That was the focus of a workshop sponsored by the Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce. The presenters were Nancy Carlson, president of The Suburban Group, and Peter Carlson, vice president.
The workshop walked participants through the steps required to build a hiring process that identifies the best candidate for the job—from goal-setting to advertising to interviewing. “It’s important to step back and assess the realistic needs of the company or department,” says Nancy Carlson, “and then develop goals and objectives and performance requirements.”

Worcester Business Journal honors Nancy Carlson of The Suburban Group
Nancy Carlson, president of The Suburban Group, is one of 15 entrepreneurs featured in Entrepreneurs 2007: Learning from the Best, a special supplement of Worcester Business Journal.
With ventures ranging from art to engineering to biotech, what do all of these business leaders have in common? “They have a track record of running an enterprise that succeeded,” says editor Christina O’Neill, “and they have a forward-thinking vision of how to sustain their companies over the long term.”
Nancy Carlson’s profile traces her journey from her early days in the employment industry in Dallas to her role in guiding The Suburban Group’s evolution from a temporary employment agency to a multi-dimensional firm offering professional recruitment and staffing as well as a broad range of consulting and HR services.
At a special event hosted by Worcester Business Journal and sponsored by DCU, Bollus Lynch, and Fallon Community Health Plan, the entrepreneurs were presented with plaques recognizing their individual achievements. “I appreciate the honor,” says Nancy Carlson, “but this award is really about all of us—the businesses we partner with, the talent we place, and all the people of Suburban who bring expertise as well as a personal touch to everything they do.”
